Two LAAS students win CHS Graduate Fellowships

Congratulations to Azucena Sierra Garcia and Seiya Wakahara, LAAS graduate students who were selected to receive the CHS Graduate Fellowship for the upcoming academic year!

The CHS Graduate Fellowship Fund was established in 2002 and supports graduate students in CFANS; two fellowships were awarded this year. The award includes a $25,000 stipend, tuition credits, and other benefits.

Azucena Sierra Garcia is a master's student advised by Dr. Kyungsoo Yoo; her research focuses on creating a deeper understanding of topography, soil health, and type management in mountainous coffee production regions where smallholder farmers often co-produce other essential agricultural products that contribute to food security.

Seiya Wakahara is a PhD student advised by Dr. Yuxin Miao; his research focuses on integrated precision nitrogen and water management of potato—the fourth largest staple food in the world—to improve tuber yield and quality, resource use efficiency, profitability, and environmental sustainability.
